What is Coaching?
Can you remember a time when someone really listened to what you were saying? They listened with compassion, acceptance, and understanding. They listened so deeply that you knew they heard you. They listened in a way that you felt acknowledged and affirmed. Their willingness to listen in this way gave you insight into yourself that otherwise eluded you.
Coaching is a partnership. We all know there are professional sports coaches to support the athletes and acting coaches to support the actors in doing their best. Life Coaches help individuals do and be their best in all areas of their lives. As your coach I will provide you with this safe and ongoing partnership that helps you produce fulfilling results. I will acknowledge your successes. I will listen with compassion and understanding. I will observe and ask questions to assist you in finding clarity as you discover the answers within you.
I will encourage and support you in taking the time to listen to your inner wisdom, to reflect, to focus, and take note of what you really want to get out of your life as you become more conscious of who you want to be in each moment. You discover and appreciate your unique qualities, your strengths, talents, skills, and experience. I will assist you in setting goals that are practical, doable, and easy to perform. I will encourage you in taking risks that are a natural part of growth and change. I will teach you how to transform your limiting and negative language, thinking, and beliefs. I will work with you to connect with your priorities and make choices that align with what you value most.
Coaching helps you recognize that every time you are faced with a challenge - an illness, a difficult relationship, a change or transition, a compulsive behavior - that you can choose to respond rather than react so you can gather the gifts of learning that these challenges hold for your growth. Your challenges aren’t an indication that something is wrong; they are doorways into the joy of being fully alive in each moment. Your challenges can support you in unlocking your vision, recognizing what you want, and then taking action.
Taking action for our self-care is when we choose to take time out of our busy days for activities that will benefit our well-being, health, and help us enhance the quality of our lives. Self-care includes moving our bodies and other nurturing activities like reading a good book while we relax on the coach, at the beach, or in the garden. When we claim time for self-care we honor ourselves and mindfully create the life we want to live. You won’t believe how much better your whole life will feel once you learn how to consistently practice self-care behaviors. My intention is to teach you what you need to know in order to sustain self-care behaviors for the rest of your life, and enjoy doing them.
I make adjustment where necessary in my program to meet my clients’ unique needs. When clients work with me, they rediscover a deep trust in themselves, and learn new relationship and communication strategies to achieve their goals. If you are committed to learning how to take care of your needs and succeed then my program is for you.
“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” –Oliver Wendell Holmes
Coaching is not psychotherapy. Psychotherapy addresses the healing of medical conditions, which can be both psychological and/or physical in nature. Coaching is focused on supporting clients in recognizing blocks that are preventing them from moving forward. Coaching then assists clients in their courage and commitment to replace those blocks with positive strategy and tools, and then take action.
